For the 2023 Hanyang University School of Architecture Graduation Exhibition, I planned and developed the online exhibition website. Built with Next.js as the front end and powered by GCP to serve portfolio image data, the site consists of four sections: About, Exhibition, People, and Gallery. In the six months following its launch, it recorded 4,000 users and 54,000 page interactions, with both figures continuing to grow steadily to this day.

Behind

This is the initial planning document, written in November 2022. At the time, many other architecture departments had websites to showcase graduation exhibitions and studio results, but ours did not.
I remembered how the iOS app I made in high school (DimigoIn) failed to be maintained because I built it in SwiftUI, which no one else could take over.
For systems like this, I realized maintenance has to be the number one priority.

The design. I focused on ensuring that the website would not distract from the works themselves.
Overall, I used a dark theme to give weight, while in the detail view I inverted the theme to increase focus.

It’s fascinating—visitors keep coming without pause.

Even on a weekly basis, the traffic remains quite high.

Here’s the ranking of page views by page.

Visitors arrive mostly through search, then via external links, and lastly by directly typing the URL.

Typing the exact name brings it up, but searching “Hanyang University Department of Architecture” doesn’t rank the site highly. For the next update, I plan to improve SEO as well.

The current backend structure was just built to “work logically.” It’s very different from the one powering the website you’re viewing now. The plan is to rebuild it to match this structure, so that even people with no coding knowledge can upload or edit content.
