The 2022 Fall Semester project, Living with a Superhuman, imagines a future where scientific advancement enables humanity to survive through photosynthesis alone, without the need for food consumption. Yet this evolution comes with consequences: smaller bodies, diminished height, and disproportionately elongated arms.

Behind

This is Grass Man. A superhuman fated to live through photosynthesis, with the body of a gibbon. Dumb, but cute. Considering the smaller scale and unusual movement style of a monkey compared to humans, I proceeded with the design.

My own space before combining with the other one. I designed it while imagining how I would actually live there: low-level segmented spaces and a small utility room.
As a lower-year student, I didn’t have a sense of how detailed or realistic a design had to be. So I brainstormed all sorts of scenarios based on daily routines—like laundry and using the bathroom. It made my head spin.

I also came up with the idea of using a revolving door angled at 120 degrees to partition space.

Final model, laser-cut. At the makerspace I impulsively chose plywood with a wood veneer sheet on one side. But I didn’t consider that it was only veneered on one side before cutting… The final model always ends up about 2% unsatisfying, haha.

Two days before the final presentation. I designed a sectional model that could be cut open. I even expressed the section cut, trying to push the quality as much as I could.

Complete!! This was the last architectural model I made in the Science and Technology Building.

Presentation day. Drawings, model, and panel. I layered multiple drawings on tracing paper to express depth.
